Behavioral Health Non-Paid Generalist Intern

Position Description:  Generalist Intern (Non-paid First Year)

Position 

The Generalist Intern will gain hands on and real-world experience as you explore the career path of working within the Behavioral Health field.  Through our non-paid personal and professional development training, you will learn of the different departments and services, as well as having the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of others. 

Under the Clinical Supervisor, the Generalist Intern will be responsible for providing case management services to a wide range of individuals struggling with mental health, substance use and behavioral issues, both in the Trivium program and the community. 

Essential Duties 

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following essential functions: 

  • Complete required hours and program requirements as outlined in agreement for non-paid internship.  Must report to Trivium Life Services as scheduled. 
  • Adheres to all current federal & state laws, as well as Trivium Policies and Procedures, including the safeguarding of confidential healthcare information and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA). 
  • Under the direct supervision, will observe or manage caseload of clients to include but not limited to follow up with clients, scheduling case management appointments, coordinating care and understanding of clients' attendance. 
  • Maintain all client documentation in the electronic record as applicable within established timeframe. 
  • Under the direct supervision, will observe or assist with assessing treatment progress and work within multidisciplinary teams to contribute to appropriate wrap around services specific to each client. 
  • Monitor client attendance and treatment progress as well as communicating with the 
  • Coordinate resources and referrals with community partners to assist client in obtaining basic needs and other case management goals. 
  • Monitor client drug testing as applicable. 
  • Observe and/or complete client-focused Service Plans in accordance to company policies and procedures.   
  • Observe and/or complete case management assessment and PO reports within required timeframe. 
  • Attends staff/supervision/agency meetings and trainings as required. 
  • Maintain open communication channels and keep leadership aware of client and/or staff support needs.
  • Contribute to developing an ongoing resource database and networking with community partners to build relationships while representing Trivium Life Services. 
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools as well as exhibit an ability to learn and utilize electronic health record (EHR) system effectively.

  • While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.  The employee is often required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, and may kneel or crouch.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. 

    Working Conditions 

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • The intern will always be under supervision of an on-site licensed clinician 

    Requirements/Qualifications 

  • Must be a student in good standing with a graduate school/Bachelor's internship program.
  • Pursuing a Degree in Social Work or a closely related field requiring a generalist placement.
  • Basic personal computer skills required, experience with Microsoft Office software 
  • Results of drug test, criminal and all other applicable background checks must meet Trivium's standards
